[dc]N[/dc]ot that I need a reason to post photos of cupcakes and pies, but it being Wednesday, aka “hump day,” is a good a reason as any. Stephanie and I went to our friends’ wedding on Sunday, and I (thankfully) brought my DSLR (a Canon EOS Rebel T2i).

As promised, here’s a photo of the cupcakes. Set phasers to DROOL.

Yes, have some. Photo by me.

I can assure you, the cupcakes tasted as good as they looked. This, and the other two photos, is the result of shooting with my favorite camera lens: the Canon EF 50mm 1.8, aka the “Niffy Fifty.”

You had me at pie. Photo by me.

Yummy. Stephanie and I are having pie at our wedding as well, as neither of us really care for wedding cake—and pie is just more fun.

Yes, the ‘Niffy Fifty‘ is great for super-shallow focus photos of food, rusty pipes, or other minutiae. If you are new to Canon DSLRs, the 50mm 1.8 is a great investment: handy for indoor or low-light shooting, and at about $100 (give or take), it is reasonably priced.

Everyone will be jealous of your sandwich photos. Image via Amazon.

Just remember, the 50mm is a fixed focal length lens—so no zooming in or out, unless you use your feet (watch where you step!). If super-shallow focus ain’t yer bag, set it to F8 or F11 for a decent ‘whatever’ focus.

Veronica and Luke, the married couple, set out a signature book, so I left them an extra special message.

There’s a reason I use a T-square and a lettering guide. Photo by me.

For the two of ya who remember the Rules of Engagement comic, Veronica and Luke were the inspiration after announcing their engagement. I felt it was only necessary to draw No Filter Fox in their guest book.

Congrats you two! Now, I’mma stare at the photo of the pies for a bit longer.
