Friday Six: R. Crumb, Blood Bros., Furminator, Introverts, and More
[dc]T[/dc]he Friday Six: R. Crumb, Blood Bros., Furminator, otter pups, introverts, and a zombie novel.
[ ] I’m slowly working my way through R. Crumb’s Book of Genesis Illustrated. The scale of this project is amazing, and every page is gorgeous. Well worth a read.
[ ] Do your ears a favor and check out this Blood Bros. mixtape, First Blood. I learned about it from The Dissolve (sent to me by a pal).
From The Dissolve:
All told, the trilogy runs over two hours, a relentless nostalgia rush of sound clips, montage songs, Stan Bush originals, cuts from Rocky sequels, and American Top 40’s cheesiest anthems.
First Blood is actually part one in a trilogy—the other parts are Heaven2Hell and Back in America. Love it. I’mma go chop down a mountain. Or finish our wedding invitations.
[ ] Because everyone loves cat stories: we bought a Furminator deshedding tool to use on Nigel, and man oh man, does it WORK.
I might need to start selling Nigel Tribbles on Etsy (“100% organic!”). If you have a longhair cat yourself, then the Furminator is a must have, especially during the summer.
[ ] Potter Park Zoo (where I volunteer as an education docent) welcomed a trio of otter pups this week. So much cute, so little time. They are North American River Otters, not to be confused with giant otters.
[ ] Buzzfeed’s 31 Unmistakable Signs You’re an Introvert pretty much reads like my dossier. A few are so spot on, it is kinda scary:
2. You know that canceling plans is like winning the damn lottery, especially when someone else does it.
8. You don’t hate parties, it’s just that you don’t LOVE being around a ton of people.
14. Agreeing to a lot of nights out in a row isn’t fun. AT. ALL.
and especially:
18. When you’ve been around people for too long, there comes a moment when you realize you need to be alone OR ELSE.
Granted, these are exaggerations and flirt with stereotypes, but while every introvert (and extrovert) is different, there are grains of truth here.
I (jokingly) referrer to myself as a ‘high functioning introvert.’ Meaning, yes I can talk to crowds without a problem (teaching, panel talks, co-hosting a talk show), but being around large groups is draining. While I love activities with Stephanie and friends, there are times I want to be alone.
A book which really helped me was Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking by Susan Cain. I don’t think I’ve nodded so much while reading a book before. There is a chapter I asked Stephanie (an extrovert) to read about an extrovert and introvert married couple, because it explained my quirks a better than I could.
[ ] Writer pal Stewart Sternberg’s zombie novel, The Ravening, is now available as an ebook.
If you like action packed zombie stories, then give The Ravening a read. Trivia: I’m an Easter egg in the novel. My name was used for one of the quotes at the start of a chapter.
BONUS! (because I can’t count) [ ] Crazy Cool stuff I pinned on Pinterest.

Thanks for the promotion. By the way..the hairball? A little disconcerting. And possibly something to lure a tribble into a tryst.
You are very welcome.
Tribble Tryst would make for a great Star Trek fan fiction title, don’t you think?
