Gremlins Director Joe Dante Favorited One of My Tweets
[dc]M[/dc]onday night featured a Joe Dante Twitter love-fest, and I joined in—because Joe Dante directed some of my favorite films, mainly Gremlins and The ‘Burbs. I don’t always expect folks to read my tweets, but it doesn’t stop me from joining a conversation. Much to my surprise, I saw this in my inbox a short while later.
Being kid of the ’80s, I grew up watching Joe Dante’s films on cable and network TV. Gremlins, Explorers, Innerspace, and The ‘Burbs were almost always on some channel on any given weekend.
And when I got a bit older, I finally saw The Howling (a must see for werewolf fans) and Gremlins 2: The New Batch. I’ll confess to having missed most of Joe Dante’s later films, but I watch Gremlins and The ‘Burbs at least a few times a year (especially The ‘Burbs).
Trivia: My parents took me to see Gremlins in the theater–and I wasn’t even three years old yet. Yep.
This is only outdone by Dad a) taking me to see Aliens two years later, and b) Dad taking me to the neighborhood strip club when I was under a year old.¹
And people wonder why I am weird.

¹. He took me with him because he wanted to watch the Red Wings game (we didn’t have cable). Mom was out-of-town, and it was the Playoffs. The best part? Mom and I didn’t find out about this until maybe six years ago.
