DaveCon Gaming Convention This Weekend in Okemos, MI
[dc]I[/dc]f you are a board game fan, and live in Michigan, you might want to check out DaveCon this weekend here in Lansing (well, technically the suburb Okemos, aka Spendthemos, AMIRIGHT?). DaveCon takes place at the Okemos Comfort Inn Conference Center, 2187 University Park Drive (Okemos, MI 48864).
Play With Strangers New Friends at DaveCon
I have never been to DaveCon myself, but I might try to go this weekend (my friend Francis went last year, and is trying to round-up a group outing). If you want to spend your weekend playing board games, or learning a new board game, DaveCon, put on by the Lansing Board Gamers group, might be your next favorite thing.
Via the DaveCon website:
Open Board Gaming and Tournaments. (Rio Grande, Mayfair, Avalon Hill, Fantasy Flight, Z-man, Steve Jackson, Railroad, etc.), and Texas Hold-em (no gambling). Board gaming tournaments are being organized. Please bring your favorite games for yourself and for our game library! Also, new this year – official play testing. Would you like your feedback to help shape the next big game? As a play tester, you not only get a preview of new games, but also get to provide feedback in the clever art of game design.
My pals who went last year (Francis and Ken), had fun and even took part in a Dominion tournament (something I would be keen on trying myself). Dominion, one of my favorite games, is perhaps best described as Magic the Gathering minus the capitalism (you can’t just buy the best cards, which is what I like the most about Dominion).
I Need About $20 to Make You Holler
Like most conventions, DaveCon requires registration and a fee, but there are prizes and tournaments. A single day at-the-door registration looks like only $20 or under, which is great for a convention (most cons are nearly twice that amount, at least, for the day). Register for the whole weekend, and save money (you can even stay at the hotel).
“Anybody Need Sheep?”
If I make it to DaveCon, I’ll try to write about the experience, but it sounds like a lot of fun. I enjoy board and card games, and wedding planning over the summer kept me from more than a few gaming nights with the gang.
Here’s some of the games available for play at DaveCon: Settlers of Catan, Kingdom Builder, Puerto Rico, 7 Wonders, Netrunner, Escape the Curse of the Temple, and more. Games range in type as well: strategy, deck building, and role playing, to name a few.
Let’s Get Testy
There are a bunch of ‘beta’ games too, according to the website, and attendees can help play test (work out the bugs). I believe anyone can ‘open play’ whatever game they wish too (borrow from the library of games or bring your own).
Whatcha waitin’ for, Michigan gamers? (…Michigamers?) Register for DaveCon today.
