Walt Disney World Honeymoon: Disney’s Animal Kingdom Photos – Asia
[dc]T[/dc]he Asia section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom features gorgeous theming. Really. Asia in Disney’s Animal Kingdom might be one of my favorite places to shoot photos in all the Walt Disney World parks.
For fans of theming and Disney World photowalks, the Animal Kingdom is a must-visit–especially Asia, and the parts around the ride Expedition Everest.
One of our first stops near Expedition Everest was the Yak and Yeti restaurant. Fans of pan Asian food should give the Yak and Yeti a try—it features a fun menu and goes beyond basic sandwiches and burgers. Stephanie and I split an order of Dim Sum and fried rice–which made for a great light lunch.
Yak and Yeti also serves beer—and better still, our waitress gave us plastic to-go cups. That’s right, travel beers at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. We spotted a guy walking around with a plastic cup of beer earlier in a gift shop and wondered how we could do the same. If you want a nicer sit-down restaurant during your visit to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, check out Yak and Yeti.
OK, time for more photos!
This sign was outside a bathroom and above a drinking fountain near Expedition Everest. I love the messed up lettering.
Prayer flags are all around the Asia part of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and they usually make for fun, colorful photos. I played with the colors here a bit to make them pop a bit more (ah, the joys of Adobe Lightroom).
Even building roofs get the theme treatment at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. This is the very top of a building near Expedition Everest. The roof featured all kinds of theming.
The gift shops in Asia, especially near Expedition Everest, feature great theming. The ‘story’ of the gift shops is, you are preparing for your own expedition and the shops sell travel supplies and other artifacts. Like I said before, look at the walls and ceilings in Disney World—there is plenty of theming going on all around you, and not just at eye level.
Need some lanterns for your trip? These hang from the ceiling of a gift shop (probably the same one with the bells shown above, but I can’t remember).
Some of the walls in the Asia and Africa parts of Disney’s Animal Kingdom feature exposed wires, switches, and fuse boxes. I doubt any of these function (I don’t think Disney would allow exposed wires around kids), but they sure look great.
These lights hang somewhere in Asia, I think near the bathroom where I shot the drinking fountain photo. I love how they criss-cross and just keep going in the distance.
Finally, here’s a close-up of the Yeti shrine across from Mount Everest. The full shrine is pretty big, and features all kinds of ‘offerings’: food, coins, and other items. This part is in the center, and is easily missed. Stephanie, who worked at Animal Kingdom, never even noticed this before.
