Gifts For My Best Man: Cool As Ice on DVD and a Thor Statue
[dc]T[/dc]he Best Man gift is a sacred tradition, going back at least a dozen years. Maybe longer. I’m not sure if best man gifts were a thing in Ye Olden Tymes, but I looked to the past for inspiration. I needed to get my best man, Erik, a gift. After 43 seconds weeks of searching, I found the perfect items for a best man gift, or perhaps any gift: a wooden Thor statue and a copy of the Vanilla Ice film, Cool As Ice.
And that’s Thor as in the Norse god, not the Marvel/Disney character from the comics and movies. Erik is a fan of all things Norse, I think he even took a class on Viking Goat Law or something at Law School. I too share his fondness for all things from ‘the land of ice and snow,’ and he gifted me with a Viking drinking horn for acting as his best man (read my Prince-themed speech). Erik’s speech at my wedding was, as would be expected, Norse and Viking themed. Hilarity ensued.
Erik also gifted me the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film archive, which includes Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of the Ooze, which in turn features Vanilla Ice’s brilliant cameo and show stopping song, Ninja Rap.
I felt it was only Proper to return the favor, and give Erik Vanilla Ice’s magnum opus, Cool As Ice.
Because, as Vanilla Ice’s character, Johnny says: “If you ain’t true to yourself, you ain’t true to nobody.” ¹

¹. Seriously, watch Cool As Ice. It is a brilliant film and an excellent time capsule of the early 1990s.
