Friday Six: Unicorns; Plume; Hand-Lettering; Neko Atsume
[dc]S[/dc]ix things on my mind or worth mentioning. In no particular order, because the only order I like is the kind at the drive-through window.
ANYWAY
[ ] Unicorns: I learned of the lovely and darling comic strip Phoebe and Her Unicorn by Dana Simpson recently (via Boing Boing). Highly recommended. Very cute and funny. There are collections on Amazon.
[ ] Bang Bang: Speaking of comics I just started reading, there’s Plume by K. Lynn Smith. Also highly recommended. Start reading this engrossing western adventure here.
[ ] Fancy Words: Always looking to improve my skill set, I picked up a copy of the Hand-Lettering Ledger by Mary Kate McDevitt. I have yet to really sit down and start working, but it is a lovely book with all kinds of exercises to help learn hand-lettering skills.
[ ] Door Closes, Another Opens: I did not get into Grand Rapids Comic Con this year (it is a juried show), and no big deal. I started looking for other shows in the fall and learned of the Michigan Comic Book Expo in Taylor (September 26th). I sent in my form and table fee, so I should be all set.
[ ] Anime Nostalgia: I’ve revisited old anime favorites lately. I just got the itch for some reason, and recalled fond memories of the Sci-Fi Channel (Syfy’s name in the ’90s) running their Saturday Anime showings or the marathons in the summer. In the past week I watched Iria – Zeiram the Animation and Vampire Hunter D.
[ ] Cat Madness: I had to uninstall the Neko Atsume game on my phone. It’s a cute game, but there really isn’t any point or strategy to it, and it became a big time waster for me. I stare at my phone too much as it is, and I didn’t need another thing luring me in every few minutes.
