[dc]O[/dc]ur Wedding has come and gone. It will be strange not to talk or write about planning a wedding, as it has been a daily part of Stephanie and my’s life for over a year. Our wedding was worth all the work though, and everyone enjoyed themselves–folks enjoyed our different approach. Speaking of different approaches, here’s one of the wedding cards we received.
Because this is The Internet, and because The Internet loves lists, here’s a list of wedding highlights in no particular order.
- I played the following songs off my secret iPod playlist at the wedding: Boogie in Your Butt, Magic Dance, Walk the Dinosaur from Super Mario Bros., and The Nightingale from Twin Peaks. (I also played some Danzig at the sound check earlier in the afternoon)
- I put my viking drinking horn, a gift from my best man for being his, to proper use during the reception.
- Speaking of my best man, his speech compared the modern wedding and courtship to that of the Vikings. Educational and hilarious.
- Thanks to Eat Pomegranate Photography for shooting our wedding. I can’t wait to see all the wedding photos. We had a lot of fun posing, especially for the photos at Lick-ity Split ice cream in downtown Grand Ledge.
- Our wedding ceremony featured a reading from Douglas Adams’ So Long and Thanks for All the Fish (read by Ginger, Adorned‘s Kat Cooper), and our wedding officiant made several Star Trek references (“Love, the final frontier,” “Every starship needs a crew.”)
- I still don’t know how to tie a bow tie (thank you groomsman Andrew for the help though).
- Our wedding guests went gaga over the food—sandwiches by Zingerman’s Catering. YUM.
- The wedding planning advice about ‘don’t invite friends to your wedding you haven’t seen in a long time, because you won’t get a chance to talk’ is true. I feel like Stephanie and I talked with about 20 wedding guests out of over 150.
- The home-brew beer our friends Brian and Sara made was a huge hit. Two words: coffee stout. (which I spelled ‘coffe stout’ on the bar signs I drew. OOPS.)
- I gave the groomsmen and our officiant 1 liter beer boot glasses as thank you gifts. Our officiant filled his with wine. A liter of wine. It was that kind of party.
- During his dinner blessing at the reception, Dad recounted Mom’s reaction to our wedding invitations: “She said, ‘well, I guess it isn’t a traditional wedding.’ At that moment, I was never prouder of my son.”
- According to Stephanie, I had a 25 minute long ‘bromance’ chat with one of my cousins at the end of the night. Apparently there was lots of hugging.
- Update: My “Magical African American Friend“, who will remain nameless here by request, did an outstanding job MC’ing our wedding ceremony and acting as a DJ.
- Nigel the cat really, really missed us. After returning from the wedding the next day, he was very chatting and clingy.
And Nigel brought us back down from our post-wedding high, in his own special way.
Nothing like the cat horking up a hairball right outside your bedroom at 7am to welcome you back to your first day of post-wedding reality.

I LOVED the beer! Also love Nigel, oh and the bride and groom, too.
😀 Thanks!
Zingerman’s! So jealous, congrats buddy and everyone should play boogie in your butt at a wedding
Thanks! Boogie in Your Butt is a must-play at any social gathering.
What, I don’t get a shutout for READING the reading?!? Lame, my dear. 😉
An oversight! I’ll fix it.
This is not for sake of ego or narcissism – I would consider adding something about “my one black friend” just for search engine optimization. Ya know, cuz you be in to that kind of thang, yo. No name reference just “my one black friend” would suffice. Word, brah.
I prefer “my Magical African American Friend” over “my one black friend.”
And also, calling you ‘my one black friend’ is totally erroneous. I have two more.
