[dc]I[/dc]‘m sure last week’s news of evidence of flowing water on Mars will affect literature going forward. And the effect? Pages dripping with aquatic allusions.

ANYWAY

I’m a fan of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ John Carter of Mars novels (and the Disney film too¹), and Andy Weir’s The Martian². I have not read Berkeley Breathed’s Mars Needs Moms, but I generally like anything he does (Bloom County is one of my favorite comics, and one of the first things I remember reading on my own as a kid).

¹ John Carter is a solid film, and it’s a shame it had a confusing title and poor marketing.

² One of my favorite reads this year.
