[dc]T[/dc]hanks to the latest lockout, fans of the National Hockey League will have a few extra hours on their hands this New Year’s Day.

To the disappointment of Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs fans (but probably to the enjoyment of Chicago Blackhawks and Montreal Canadiens fans), the NHL Winter Classic at the University of Michigan’s Big House set for New Year’s Day is no more¹.

UPDATE: A big thank you to Yahoo!’s Puck Daddy for the link love in Puck Headlines.

With the annual NHL cash cow’s outdoor game’s cancellation, what are NHL fans to do? Here are 10 ways NHL fans can put their unexpected free time on New Year’s Day to use, and fill the Winter Classic shaped void in their hearts.

Player Name Anagrams – This could kill a few hours, if not days. Amuse yourself and others by rearranging player names into different words. Steve Yzerman? More like Very Zen Meats. A Tricky Pro, which makes all kinds of sense. Good luck with John Vanbiesbrouck.

I’m Tired of Election Day So Here’s a Video of My Cat Sneezing

by Daniel J. Hogan on November 6, 2012 at 5:50 pm

[dc]W[/dc]e all need a bit of a mental break after this grueling election season (I know I do. Making tin foil hats is hard work).

So, here is my cat Nigel, playing on his scratching post and breaking into a sneezing fit. You are welcome. Videos of cats make everything better.

Yes, I know the quality ain’t the best (shot with my phone, yo), but it wasn’t like I could say, “Nigel, that was great, but can you do it all over again after I set up my DSLR with my 50mm 1.8 lens? Also, do it slower and with more intensity.”

Cats don’t take direction well.

Posted In: Blog, Humor

[dc]A[/dc] few Halloweens ago, I decided to go as a Ghostbuster (from the movie, not that Filmation cartoon).

Final Costume 1And why not? I wanted to be something iconic, especially after the previous year’s ‘steampunk Mr. Belvedere’ costume went over like a clockwork lead balloon.¹

Since there was no way I was going to pay $30-$40 for a cheesy, store-bought Ghostbusters costume with an inflatable Proton Pack, I decided to make my own. Because that made sense, and it was, according to the voices in my head, What Batman Would Do.²

There was a clear divide in my social circle upon my announcing this project: those who thought I was clever and creative, and those who thought I had finally snapped and was stampeding into Don Quixote territory. With the benefit of hind sight, I can say they were both a bit correct.

[dc]I[/dc]n theory, a garage sale is a great idea.

But, in theory, so is trying to ride a shark.

Not owning  a garage, a yard, or even a shrubbery, Stephanie and I pitched the idea of a joint garage sale to our friends Benedict and Laura.¹ Benedict and Laura are Real Adults who actually have a garage and a yard.

And thus the comedy of errors began.
