Inktober 2015 #3 – Swamp

by Daniel J. Hogan on October 3, 2015 at 8:05 pm

[dc]M[/dc]aybe because I’ve been playing a lot of Magic: The Gathering lately, or because it’s the season of Halloween, but I drew a spooky swamp for today.

Here lies Butts. And the rest.

Pens: Tombow Duo Brush Pen (black), Copic Cool Gray No. 3 (gray)

Paper: Bee Paper Company Super Deluxe Sketch Pad

I like the Tombow brush pens, but I learned the hard way not to use them with watercolor paint. They bleed something fierce with water, but that’s the point from what I later read. It also didn’t like being erased either (I penciled this drawing first).

Inktober 2015 #2 – Trick ‘r Treat Ghost

by Daniel J. Hogan on October 2, 2015 at 7:50 pm

[dc]I[/dc]t is October after all, so expect some ghosts and monsters during Inktober. Because who doesn’t love ghosts and monsters? Maybe the librarian in Ghostbusters, I guess.

Weird lighting was totally on purpose. Sure.

Pen: Pilot Precise V5

Paper: Bee Paper Company Super Deluxe Sketch Pad

Now, this is just a ghost, not Guilt Trip Ghost.

I couldn’t decide if ghosts cast shadows while floating, and then I decided I didn’t care, so that’s that. Floating bags though, those jerks cast shadows. And how!

Newsletter Archive #4 – Changes

by Daniel J. Hogan on October 2, 2015 at 12:01 am

[dc]I[/dc] send out a new email newsletter every week through MailChimp (sign up here), and decided to back up my old newsletters here. This is Clattertron Newsletter #4 – Changes from July 31, 2015.

When it comes to my online life, I’m all about change. Shaking stuff up every few months, or years, just for the thrill of it—and for experimentation sake.

Three years into this webcomic thing (and longer for blogging in general), and I’m still waiting to break out as the kids say. Or the adults like me who cry themselves to sleep say. So, I’m always up for change to see if it is the Big Change I needed.

ANYWAY

A couple of changes of note.

First, I turned comments back on for Clattertron. I didn’t turn them off for any major reason in the first place, other than I didn’t get a lot of comments and didn’t see the point in offering something which was not being used.

comments

Hooray, positive comments.

I’m a firm believer in the never read the comments motto when it comes to pretty much everything online. And yet, there are exceptions. The Bloggess features a very active (and usually universally positive) commenting community. Writers like John Scalzi engage with commenters on their own sites daily. (both blogs are recommend reading, by the way)

Inktober 2015 #1 – Coffee Cup

by Daniel J. Hogan on October 1, 2015 at 12:01 am
Posted In: Blog, News

[dc]I[/dc] was not sure if I wanted to take part in Inktober again this year or not, but I decided to give it a shot. Here’s all of my Inktober drawings for last year.

Kicking off this year is a silly coffee cup drawing. These will get better/more elaborate/inky as the month goes on. Sure! Maybe!

I know, right?

I wasn’t sure about Inktober at the start, hence the simple drawing. Last year’s first drawing wasn’t anything fancy either.

Drawn with a Uni-ball Jetstream 0.7 and colored with a simple watercolor kit in my Bee Paper Super Deluxe Sketch Pad (read my review).

I like this li’l cup dude tho, even if it is simple. I look at him, and I see MYSELF!

Not exactly. I hardly smile so much.

Ugh, krakens on a cracker, I need more coffee.

I may take a more casual approach to Inktober this year versus last, as I’m trying to not spread myself too thin these days. But, I’m drawing in my sketchbook every day anyway, so there’s no reason not to just post something here.

And here only. No photos to social media. Links, sure (not that links matter, especially on Twitter). But no photos (save the link previews). I’m tired of being a content farm for Big Social Brother.
