Wedding Planning Adventures: The Story So Far

by Daniel J. Hogan on August 21, 2013 at 12:01 am

[dc]W[/dc]ith our wedding a week and change away, saying Stephanie and I are busy is an understatement. Because, we ain’t just busy: stressed, tired, cranky, irritable, and emotional, the list goes on—I don’t know how Stephanie puts up with me.

That’s about right. Image via Amazon.

Operation Wedding A Go Go is in full swing, which means I have to ease up on the blogging for the next week and change. Although I said the same thing last week and ended up with three blog posts and a comic (four posts, if you count my weekly update on danieljhogan.com).

Don’t worry, the comics will continue. I already started next week’s, and I have one in mind for the day after the wedding. This could be my only blog post this week though (yes, which might mean no Friday Six this week. Or next week).

Wedding Planning Final Countdown

The big thing on my Wedding Honey Do List is, start and finish illustrating our wedding programs. Yes, I will draw some silly pictures for the programs we’ll hand out at the wedding ceremony. The difficult part is over though: I have an idea and a style in mind. Now I just have to draw. And draw. And draw.

I caught a break this time and Stephanie said black and white would be fine with her. Whew (coloring our wedding invitations took longer than I expected).

I figured now is a good a time as any to collect and recap my other Wedding Planning Adventures posts. Everyone loves list blog posts, right?

Wedding Planning Adventures Top 10 Stories (And Comics)

  • I Think My Mother is Trying to Tell Me Something – A prologue of sorts.
  • Engaged – Where it all started! How I popped the question to Stephanie.
  • She Shot Down My Idea For a Back to the Future Wedding – ::sigh:: The title says it all.
  • Wedding Planning Adventures: All the Maps – Stephanie took me to MSU Surplus to buy a plethora of maps (similar to a plethora of pinatas).
  • Wedding Planning Adventures: The Bridal Show – Oh. My. Ever been to a bridal show? One word: CRAZY
  • Catfunding – A comic about Stephanie’s idea to raise wedding planning money.
  • The Best Best Man Gift Ever: A Viking Drinking Horn – While not about our wedding exactly, it does have my thoughts on wedding party gifts and influenced the choices I made (and will make) for our gifts.
  • Wedding Planning Adventures: Your Ad Here – My idea to sell advertising space on my suit to raise funds for our wedding reception.
  • 4th of July Photoshop Hilarity – Fun times while working on wedding shower thank you cards in Photoshop.
  • Sick Burn, Grandma – Speaking of wedding showers, I got totally served by my Grandma at Stephanie’s personal shower.

And seven is RIGHT OUT

[ ] Great Moments in Webmastery: Clattertron.com crashed the other night—or so I thought. What really happened was, I triggered my security lockout by unsuccessfully trying to login via my phone’s WordPress app (I changed the password). Oops!

The upside is, I’m happy to know my security plugin actually works.

[ ] Shortpacked! with a great Funky Winkerbean referencing strip. See also: last week’s post on my new-found love for FunkyWatch. I told Dad about FunkyWatch while visiting last weekend, sparking him to a) say “Funky Winkerbean is still around?” and b) catch up on the strip’s history via Wikipedia.

Apparently Funky Winkerbean takes place in 2017 now. Thanks for the info, Dad.

[ ] Geek Thing of The Week: This Chain Mail Gaming Dice Bag.

Just what I need for the next time I get called in for jury selection. Plus, if I happen to fall into the ocean (somehow), ain’t no shark gonna eat my dice. The rest of my body, whatever, but keep them teeth offa my d20s.

Nigel the Cat Helps Me Panel This Week’s Comic (Photo)

[dc]I[/dc] don’t have an assistant to help me make comics, but our cat Nigel comes pretty close. In his own way, that is. Not only did he help inspire this week’s comic, but he helped me panel the strip.

“Use a t-square, chump.” Photo by me.

Bless his furry, little cat heart. Although, he didn’t really help that much, other than prove my theory on How to Make a Cat Bed. Which, to sum up, is: cats will lay down on anything important. The more important, the more comfortable for a cat to rest upon. This is why traces of cat hair are found on the Magna Carta, the Declaration of Independence, and the screenplay to Demolition Man.

Sick Burn, Grandma

by Daniel J. Hogan on August 13, 2013 at 12:01 am

[dc]I[/dc] am always quick to confess to being sensitive. It just comes with my weirdo-introvert-goofball territory. Being 32 years old, I’m more or less at peace with my quirks. A turtle can’t change his shell, as they say (unless perhaps there is radioactive ooze involved, maybe).

Totally burned. Image via ThinkGeek.

I am better than I was though, thanks in part to:

a) getting older.

b) medication.

c) the weight of our cold, electronic, reality TV addicted-emotional vampire, go-go-go society crushing my self-esteem to the point where I just don’t care anymore. Because what’s it all mean any–

d) adopting a cat.

There are times though, when the arrows manage to pierce my armor. The worst are the shots from the least expected sources. The hits you don’t expect.

Like a totally sick burn from my grandmother (bless her heart).
