The big event is finally here: I’m appearing at the East Lansing Art Festival this Saturday and Sunday (May 19-20). This is a *huge* event, and I’m super excited (and equally nervous). I’m debuting my Monster Portraits series: it is a collection of watercolor cartoons, varying in size, of funny creatures from my imagination.

You can find me in the Emerging Artists tent, which is roughly in the middle of the art festival by the Marriott. Even better news, my wife Stephanie will also be in the tent showing off her own work. It isn’t often we get to appear at events together, so this is extra special.

When is the East Lansing Art Festival?

The 2018 East Lansing Art Festival starts on Saturday, May 19 and ends May 20. The hours for Saturday are 10 AM to 6 PM, and the hours for Sunday are 10 AM to 5 PM. Steph and I will be there every day, all day. If you come visit, please feel free to bring us a water, ice tea, and/or an ice cream sandwich.

Where is the East Lansing Art Festival?

As the same implies, the art festival is in East Lansing. Downtown East Lansing, to be specific. Even more specifically, on Albert Ave. between M.A.C. Ave. and Bailey St. The easy way to find the festival is to head for the Marriott hotel in downtown East Lansing. The art festival is right out front (this is a different location than in years past because of construction).

Here’s a map, centered on the hotel.

NOTE: Unlike my other appearances, this event is OUTSIDE. I’m a bit nervous about this part, but I should be OK in the Emerging Artist tent.

The good news about being outside is, the East Lansing Art Festival is free to attend! No tickets needed. Just show up. Bring money to buy all the things though. I can take cash and credit cards (especially for my larger pieces).

What Am I Selling at the East Lansing Art Festival?

Here’s where things get interesting. ELAF is a “fine art” show, so there are different rules than my usual comic cons and pop up markets (where I can pretty much sell whatever I want).

I’m selling framed (yes, framed) and matted watercolor cartoons in the following sizes (size denotes the frame): 5×7, 8×10, 11×14, and 12×16. The total number of these pieces in my Monster Portraits series is 25 (give or take). This series features a lot of colorful goofy creatures I came up with and they are all smiling and acting happy, despite being “monsters.”

I’m also selling matted and bagged watercolor cartoons (the mat is 8×10, the cartoon is 4×6). I will have 25 of my The 100 Day Project cartoons available.

I can’t sell prints¹ or items like my pins or stickers, so this show is originals only. I’m fine with these restrictions though. It means my set-up will be very different from what you might have seen at a comic con or other event. If you can’t make it to the East Lansing Art Festival, I plan on bringing some of any leftover pieces to Cherry Capital Comic Con in Traverse City next weekend.

So, yeah. My two biggest events of the season back to back. EVERYTHING IS FINE

There’s more info about the East Lansing Art Festival (a map, parking tips, etc.) on its official website. NOTE: the map links take you to a PDF download.

¹ I could technically sell prints of the originals I’m selling, but I didn’t have time to get that done, and I’m only allowed so many. Like I said, there’s a lot of rules.
