East Lansing Art Festival 2018: I Got In!

Big, big, news: I applied to be an Emerging Artist at this year’s East Lansing Art Festival, and I got in! This is a huge show and amazing opportunity to show-off my cartooning to a new audience.

Emerging Artist: What Is It?

The Emerging Artist portion of the East Lansing Art Festival is a chance for, yes, an emerging artist to get a booth. It is the ELAF’s way of getting new artists exhibiting at fine art shows. “Emerging” in terms of this festival means either a current or recently graduated art student, or an artist who has never appeared in a fine arts show (and might be self-taught).

I’m obviously in the latter category of “never done a fine art show and is self-taught.”

Here’s what the ELAF website says:

The East Lansing Art Festival’s Emerging Artist program encourages future art festival exhibitors by giving up-and-coming artists an opportunity to be awarded free space to exhibit among seasoned artists in a nationally renowned top 200 fine art festival setting.

So, yes, I got a free spot at a big Fine Arts festival! This is very different from a comic show, and that means I will have to rework the presentation of my art a bit.

Before I forget, my wife Stephanie (aka Steph Joy Hogan) also got in as an Emerging Artist! Hooray! Stephanie pushed me to apply to this show in the first place, so this is all her fault.

Foxes & Boxes Now on Line Webtoon

You can now read all of my current Foxes & Boxes comic pages on Line Webtoon. It took me a bit, but I got all of the 60+ pages uploaded.

What is Line Webtoon?

Line Webtoon is a webcomic syndicate, aka “a place to read a bunch of webcomics.” It is not only a website, but also an app. Yes, that’s right: you can read my Foxes & Boxes comics on the Line Webtoon app (Android, iPhone, iPad).

Why Am I Posting My Comics on Line Webtoon?

This isn’t the early 2000s. New readers don’t always go out looking for new websites. They get a lot of their content via social media and other aggregates. Line Webtoon has a *huge* audience of comic readers. It’s a matter of going where the readers are.

Yes, I prefer readers visit clattertron.com for my comics, because then I can actually make money off ads and affiliate links (or better still, Patreon). But, I’m realistic. You’re lucky if you can get readers out of the walled garden of Facebook these days. This is the state of the internet in 2018.

Line Webtoon is a comic dedicated service. Unlike Tumblr, Facebook, or even Instagram, readers are on Line Webtoon to read comics.

New Prints for Sale in My Etsy Shop

hogan etsy printI added four of my 8″ x 10″ prints to my Etsy shop over the weekend (danieljhogan.etsy.com). These come from my stock of prints I get made to sell at comic conventions, so they were all printed locally here in Lansing. They are all cut to 8 inches by 10 inches, and should fit any 8″ x 10″ frame.

These are some of my most popular prints, ever. Free Cats is a frequent hot seller. So much that I started selling 11″ x 17″ copies of Free Cats. I don’t have those for sale in my Etsy shop just yet, but I probably will. I have to figure out the logistics of mailing an 11″ x 17″ print first.

Quantity

There’s three copies available of each print, except for Free Cats, which only has one. Each print comes in a protective plastic sleeve, with a sticker, and a hand drawn thank you note. On the back of the note is a coupon code for your next purchase. It’s my special way of saying thank you! (I plan on sending out postcards to those who bought stuff recently before I made this code)

My 15% off Etsy sale doesn’t apply to these prints, but you still get free shipping. The sale ends on December 15th, so get some original art while you can.

I’m selling my Inktober and my 100 Positive Things drawings. All are one of a kind, original art, and when they are gone, they are gone for good. I’ve sold a bunch already, so check the rest out while you can.

All of my Inktober drawings are in watercolor. My 100 Positive Things drawings vary, however. Some are watercolor, while others are in art marker or black and white with an ink wash.

Each of my cartoons is 4″ x 6″ and will fit in any standard frame. I will ship as fast as I can, but I recommend you buy as soon as possible. You don’t want Grandma to miss out on getting a watercolor zombie shark or a caveman cyborg, do you?
