Get Geek’d Entertainment Expo Tomorrow!

by Daniel J. Hogan on July 27, 2018 at 12:26 am

get geek'd entertainment expoI’m exhibiting at a new event this weekend in Lansing: the inaugural Get Geek’d Entertainment Expo! This is the first year for this show, and my first time exhibiting inside the Lansing Center. I’m always happy to do local shows, because I don’t have to worry about a lot of travel or finding a hotel.

What is the Get Geek’d Entertainment Expo?

The event bills itself as “Lansing’s newest and best pop culture convention.” So, basically a comic con, but with different branding. I like the “pop culture convention” moniker because honestly that’s what most “comic cons” are these days. It’s more about pop culture and not really focused on comics. Which is fine! There are plenty of great comic focused shows, and there’s nothing wrong with pop culture shows.

When and Where is the Get Geek’d Entertainment Expo?

The fun starts this Saturday, July 28 and continues on Sunday July 29. Doors open at 10 AM on both days. The fun stops at 5 PM on Saturday and 4 PM on Sunday. You can get tickets through Etix.

The show itself is inside Hall C at the Lansing Center in downtown Lansing, MI (333 E Michigan Ave, Lansing, MI 48933). Here’s a map!

Where to Find Me

According to the floor map, I should be near the front (unless I’m reading the map backwards). I’m at booth A3, right next to artist pal Steve Jencks in A2 (Steve designed the Foxes & Boxes logo for me).

Just look for my big banner covered in cats.

What Am I Selling at the Get Geek’d Entertainment Expo

Plenty of things!

  • Cartoon prints (8×10 and 11×14)
  • 2018 The 100 Day Project original watercolor cartoons
  • Monster Portraits original watercolors
  • Commissions and Mash Up cartoons
  • Foxes & Boxes mini-comics
  • Buttons
  • Stickers

You never know how a first year show will go, but I’m expecting a good turnout. Being right downtown in the Lansing Center should help bring people in for the event.

Speaking of events, I have four next month!

  • Friday, August 3 – Featured Artist Friday
  • Friday, August 10 – Art’s Night Out
  • Saturday, August 18 – Artfeast
  • Saturday, August 25 – MeggaXP IV

Thankfully, each one is a single day event, so it shouldn’t be too exhausting. Ha!

Bark For the Arts Capital Area Humane Society Fundraiser

bark for the arts fundraiser 2018

via Capital Area Humane Society.

This Sunday afternoon you can come see me at the Capital Area Humane Society here in Lansing. No, I’m not looking at the kittens. Well. OK, I will probably be looking at kittens. But! That’s not the (main) reason I will be there. Sunday is the Bark for the Arts Fundraiser!

What is Bark for the Arts?

Artists, like myself and my wife Stephanie, are selling art this Sunday to benefit the Capital Area Humane Society. Twenty-percent of every sale goes back to the shelter! It’s a fun and easy way to give back to the place were Stephanie and I adopted our cats, Nigel and Rags.

Around 20 artists will be on hand to sell their art to help out the shelter this Sunday.

When is Bark for the Arts?

The fun starts this Sunday June 10, 2018 at 1 PM and goes until 5 PM (some old things might say 4, but it was extended by an hour). It isn’t a long event, but it shouldn’t take a lot of time to see all of the artists (and the puppers, doggos, and kittehs).

Where is Bark for the Arts?

Bark for the Arts is at the Capital Area Humane Society, 7095 W Grand River Ave, Lansing, Michigan 48906.

Here’s a map!

What Am I Selling?

I don’t know exactly where I will be set up inside the shelter. Stephanie and I are both planning on having our own tables, and should be near each other. I did hear some artists will be outside as well. We don’t really have the means (yet) to display outside properly, so Stephanie and I will be indoors where we can escape the elements (and be closer to the cats).

I plan on selling my usual collection of cartoony animal/creature prints, along with a selection of my Monster Portraits watercolor originals. My The 100 Day Project watercolor originals will be on hand as well.

Please come out this Sunday for Bark for the Arts!

If you aren’t too busy shopping the mattress sales this weekend, please come to the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa in Traverse City, Michigan to see me in Artist Alley at the 2018 Cherry Capital Comic Con!

I missed C4 last year, so I’m very excited to be coming back to one of my favorite comic cons. Better still, 2018 is the tenth annual C4, so it’s even more special! Come see me at booth 802! Continue Reading

East Lansing Art Festival Starts Tomorrow!

east lansing art festvial 2018

Via elartfest.com.

The big event is finally here: I’m appearing at the East Lansing Art Festival this Saturday and Sunday (May 19-20). This is a *huge* event, and I’m super excited (and equally nervous). I’m debuting my Monster Portraits series: it is a collection of watercolor cartoons, varying in size, of funny creatures from my imagination.

You can find me in the Emerging Artists tent, which is roughly in the middle of the art festival by the Marriott. Even better news, my wife Stephanie will also be in the tent showing off her own work. It isn’t often we get to appear at events together, so this is extra special.

When is the East Lansing Art Festival?

The 2018 East Lansing Art Festival starts on Saturday, May 19 and ends May 20. The hours for Saturday are 10 AM to 6 PM, and the hours for Sunday are 10 AM to 5 PM. Steph and I will be there every day, all day. If you come visit, please feel free to bring us a water, ice tea, and/or an ice cream sandwich.

Where is the East Lansing Art Festival?

As the same implies, the art festival is in East Lansing. Downtown East Lansing, to be specific. Even more specifically, on Albert Ave. between M.A.C. Ave. and Bailey St. The easy way to find the festival is to head for the Marriott hotel in downtown East Lansing. The art festival is right out front (this is a different location than in years past because of construction). Continue Reading
